Position

To produce structural calculations, details and drawings under the supervision of a senior engineer. You will be expected to prepare simple calculations and load takedowns unsupervised and more complex designs with the aid of a more senior colleague.

The position reports to the Office Director and Senior Structural Engineer

Job Responsibilities

Design simple structural elements on a project, produce loading take downs for a building, understand general stability issues and design simple stability elements, without technical support. You should also be aware of disproportionate collapse issues and framing techniques.

With the help of a senior engineer, you should be able to work on larger projects broken down into smaller elements, which will then form the basis of your design.

Be prepared to work efficiently within the office and research solutions to technical problems prior to consulting senior colleagues.

Prepare neat and concise calculations to the European Standards in line with JMS standards and proformas, check your own work, have them checked and revise them based on comments and feedback from your colleagues. You will be expected to review any corrections and learn from the process to provide continual improvement.

Produce technical drawings using AutoCAD and JMS Standards/templates.

Efficiently manage your workload, discuss/agree with your colleagues on the project deadlines and work towards meeting them, and provide updates and feedback on progress as required.

Work towards your chartership with the support of your mentor and colleagues regularly and systematically.

You are expected to have good attention to detail and produce neat and concise drawings and calculations to issue to clients.

Learn good habits to become efficient in time management with good organisational skills.

You are expected to work flexibly within an established team.

It is expected that you will have a positive attitude to work and developing as an engineer.
