Technical Director - Civils

Position

We are looking to invest further in the Civils service of JMS and build a team that is highly respected and driving its own business revenue line as well as greater collaboration with the in-house structures team to give JMS a powerful proposition to the market.

To this end we want to build our existing team further and we want to appoint a revenue owning Technical Director that can lead the team and generate income.  We see this position as an important hire and to require an ambitious Chartered Infrastructure Engineer to lead and develop this part of our strategy.

The right candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of work of up to £1m of fees covering a wide variety of projects and services from FRAs to the design of the infrastructure to new housing estates of 50+ homes. They will work closely with our existing teams giving access to 45+ staff and a wealth of knowledge, experience and support.

Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the Infrastructure Engineering design teams currently based in East Anglia and Midlands
  • Lead and direct the business development activities to grow the Civils service offered by JMS
  • Liaise with key clients and discuss design/technical solutions with other team members, stakeholders including technical & non-technical Clients.
  • Ensuring projects are sufficiently resourced by working closely with teams throughout the Group
  • Delegating work to team members, programming deliverables and monitoring progress of all teams
  • Support and develop junior staff through guidance, mentoring and leadership of their development
  • Prepare and check calculations, drawings, details, specifications and reports for a wide range of projects
  • Ensure the implementation of Company policies
  • Inform the Board on new product features to be developed to meet current and future business needs.
  • Assist in achieving targeted revenues from current and new customers
  • Collaborating with other Directors in delivering the JMS strategy and business results.

 The Candidate will be:

  • Chartered – preferably ICE
  • Wide experience of Civil Engineering of Schemes of varying size and complexity
  • Accountable for developing Civils business revenue
  • Good knowledge of current design software, ideally including Civils 3D, Microdrainage & AutoCad
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • A hard-working flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses good attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative
  • Able to work within a matrix structure and lead the team based in multiple locations
  • Able to demonstrate competent leadership skills in hiring, developing and managing the performance of the Civils team
  • A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team
  • Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients
  • Be available to travel across the UK
  • Have a valid UK driving licence
