JMS Engineers is delivering the structural design for the redevelopment of Kennett Place on Kings Road, Reading - a project that will see an existing office building converted into new residential apartments.
Our engineers were appointed to complete a comprehensive structural survey and inspection report, followed by the design of alterations to the existing frame to accommodate the building’s new use. The project also involves the addition of two new storeys above the existing roof, creating valuable new living space while retaining the original structure.
Converting commercial buildings into residential properties presents a unique set of structural engineering challenges. Load paths, foundation capacities, and lateral stability all need to be carefully assessed before any new floor can be added. Our team worked closely with the design team to develop a coordinated structural solution that ensures safety, efficiency, and compliance with building regulations.
This project demonstrates how intelligent structural design can repurpose older buildings for modern living - extending their lifespan, improving sustainability, and delivering real value to developers.
If you’re planning a building conversion or vertical extension, our structural engineers can help you assess feasibility, manage risks, and design cost-effective, compliant solutions from concept through to construction.
